    Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal reaction to stressful situations and can actually be beneficial in some situations. However, for some people anxiety can become excessive and can cause sufferers to dread everyday situations. There are a wide variety of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), social phobia or social anxiety disorder and panic disorder.

    Symptoms of Anxiety

    • Restlessness or feeling keyed up or on edge
    • Feelings of apprehension or dread
    • Anticipating the worst
    • Being easily fatigued
    • Difficulty concentrating or mind going blank
    • Irritability
    • Muscle tension
    • Sleep disturbance (difficulty falling or staying asleep, or restless unsatisfying sleep)

Signs That Professional Treatment is Needed

The anxiety, worry, or physical symptoms cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

If you are experiencing several physical symptoms of anxiety, consider getting a medical checkup to determine if your anxiety is caused by a medical condition.
